Deputy Prime Minister Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi met with a delegation led by Achim Steiner, Director General of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the UN Special Representative for Afghanistan, Deborah Loyne.
Mr. Achim Steiner, Director General of the United Nations Development Program said Afghanistan requires more humanitarian assistance in this difficult time and assured continued cooperation.
Deputy Prime Minister Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi said that interaction, coordination and cooperation are important for development in the country and expressed that the cooperation of the international community is necessary for the prevention of drug cultivation, and providing alternatives for farmers.
Deborah Lyone, the UN special envoy for Afghanistan, said she had recently met with representatives of 40 donor countries in Qatar and encouraged them to provide assistance to Afghans. She added that the donor countries are ready to discuss economic problems with key ministries in order to find rational solutions.
Deputy Prime Minister Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi said that solving the existing problems and challenges would pave the way for further progress. He added that through joint coordination and cooperation, humanitarian aid should be distributed in a transparent manner to those who are in need.
