Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, the Deputy Prime Minister, met with Deborah Lyones, UN Special Representative for Afghanistan, and her Deputy, Ramz Al-Akbarov, today morning at Pesedntial Place.
Both sides discussed coordination and transparency regarding humanitarian aid and Ms. Deborah Lines provided information on the activities of relevant UN agencies in Afghanistan, and called for a joint meeting with the group of relevant ministries with the United Nations and other donor agencies to address challenges, coordination, and coherence and facilitation of humanitarian assistance.
Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, Deputy Prime Minister, welcomed the suggestion that would lead to a transparent delivery of humanitarian aid to the deserving, and in order to increase understanding and coordination between the Islamic Emirate and aid agencies.
Referring to the recent floods in different parts of country, which caused casualties and financial losses to our compatriots, the Deputy Prime Minister called for more aid to the victims and also stressed that given that the Islamic Emirate is cultivating and trafficking narcotics. Prohibits assistance to Afghan farmers in the field of alternative livelihoods.
At the end of the meeting, the UN Special Representative and his Deputy stressed the need for continued UN efforts to build greater coordination and understanding for humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.
